You may be asking, "What is an Orthodox Church?"

Orthodoxy (from a Greek word meaning "right worship") is the fullness of the Christian faith, handed down from Christ’s Apostles and preserved by the Holy Spirit for almost 2,000 years. It is the most ancient of Christian faiths. The Orthodox Church has faithfully carried the light of Christ throughout the ages—never allowing its beliefs and practices to waver in the face of  modern pressures, yet making the awesome God real and intimate for millions across the world.

Most Americans have heard of the Russian and Greek Orthodox Churches. Did you also know that there are Orthodox Churches throughout the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, Indonesia, Australia, South America, and Japan? There are over 300 million Orthodox Christians around the world, 6 million of whom live in North America. All of these are of one faith, one Church. Central to our faith is our belief in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and that the eternal Son became a man—Jesus Christ—for our salvation. Through Christ we have union with God, and through His death and resurrection we have eternal life.
